The spring issue of the FUN offers a wide range of insight into the amazing world of felting. The cover presents a colorful shawl made by the artist Beate Thierling. It is easily detectable that she came to felting over the art of painting. Beate surprises with another site to herself also: Inspired by findings from nature and archaic materials she creates land-art.
Gabriele Mazaracis wanted to become a milliner, and taught herself how to felt. The successful autodidact sees her felt animals as a counterpart of the cold plastic toy world and she sets a high value on quality wool that comes from adequate animal housing.
A shop that offers hand felted happy makers, great food, and felt workshops? Katrin Schulz, aka filzfrieda and Vera Conrad made this dream come true, working with big portions of happiness and imagination.
Inga Rudnick works with a lot of energy and many ideas. Nature is one of her most important sources of inspiration and it is the amazing variety of plant and flower shapes that inspire her to create magical flower creations.
Sue Rangeley, a British textile artist, works with floral themes in her designs that come to life with free machine embroidery or hand stitching. Within her blossomy clothes and accessories that appear as artwork to the beholder, you can see the blaze of color of the English gardens or the color and pattern mixture of the flower-power age of the 1970ies.
Jill Denton is also at home in the UK, she combines free embroidery with felt and has a picturesque workflow: Layer by layer she develops her works, playing with the colors and the textures of her materials.
The third British artist of the spring issue is Sue Dove. With a busy needle she paints embroidery pictures influenced by innocent art. She combines free embroidery with mixed media, and instead of writing her experiences down in a diary, she writes them down with fabric, yarn and a needle.
Who would say »no« to a combination of creativity and indulgence at a felt workshop? Gut Haushalt is a place that combines the two. A place that is full of joy about the creative process and an inspiring atmosphere that one does not like to leave soon.
