Winter 2012

The winter issue of the FUN 2012 offers you a real insider´s tip: The felted fashion by Diana Nagorna from the Ukraine. Her fashion underlines femininity in a sensual way, as you can see on the cover of this issue. Diana Nagorna felts matching accessoires and bags that are completed with leather. A selection of her beautiful bags is printed on our winterly cover also. Brigitte Eertink (from the Netherlands) uses similar colors like turquois and soft pink for her felted creations. The back cover of this winter issue shows a detailled picture of one of her dreamily, romantic objects. Brigitte loves to embroider her felted uniques, the beads, hearts and roses that she creates are eye-catchers that no one is able to resist. Felted eye-catchers that suit any outfit are the silky wraps by Kate Ramsey, her portrait is also part of this issue. Jessica von der Fecht invented something remarkable: The »addiQuick« is the fastest felting machine that turnes needle felt into a walk in the park, its easy and very fast. With her label »mobifilz« she produces outdoor shoes made of needle felt among other things. This issue offers you handy tips and tricks for the use of the »addiQuick« and you will also get to know the inventor Jessica von der Fecht and her personal story.
Warm covers for teapots and stylish objects are the brand mark of the artist Pamela MacGregor. Kitty Korver went from pottery to felt on her artistic path. Horst Couture presented his new collection at the Amsterdam Fashion Week. With dyeing, adding and piecing it all together he makes wedding gowns from his grandmothers shop come alive again. With this beatiful way he shows his deep love for his grandmother.
We report about three international workshops: Rutsuko Sakata brought Asian air with her workshop about jackets and jewelry, Jorie Johnson showed her students the clever technique »Upcycling« and Joke van Zinderen taught the Shibori technique in her workshop.
A felters network has been founded at East Frisia, their first exhibition took place at the park of a moated castle, in open air over a couple of months. The category of the exhibition reports tells you more about this exhibition and also reports about the Felting School Oberrot and the objects of their graduates.
The Hof Kornrade (farm corn cockle) has everything to offer that a felters heart desires. A herd of sheep, exotic types of wool and helpful tools. You can even attend workshops at this friendly farm. We also introduce you to the shop »Peperblom«, that gives artists the opportunity to sell their objects at a great ambience.

Felt is more and more used in arts therapie. Inga Dünkelberg-Niemann uses the full potential of her classes at a full-day primary school. You can read about her experiences and the conception of her art classes and how she gives her students the opportunity to experience their very personal felted stories. Sandra Struck-Germann also teaches felt lessons for patients with dementia.
The wool of the Swakara sheep does not make a lot of money in the heat of Namibia. Felt offers a new way to be able to sell the available wool. Mattie Van den Heuvel tells you about her experiences in Namibia and her workshops that opened doors for the residents that did not know what to do with all the wool they´ve got.
If you are looking for a present for one of your loved ones, you may get lucky with this issue of the FUN. If you like to give away personal gifts you could follow Jana Muchalski´s instruction and felt wishful sticks, that can be designed and inscribed individually. We also introduce you to the silk scarfs by Azezana that are made by a remarkable initiative in Afghanistan, that could also be really great Christmas gifts.
We also give you an insight in a wonderful book by Tilleke Schwarz. With this book she has proven that she is a master of the art of embroidery again.
